Meetings: Washington, DC Symposium and Capitol Hill Poster Session 2009

Poster Guidelines

The 2009 Poster Session will take place at the Rayburn House Office Building at the United States Capitol on March 31, 2009 from 12:00 – 2:30 pm in B-339 and B-340.

The poster session will feature SENCER-related courses and projects - ones that specifically teach to basic science through complex, capacious, and unsolved public issues.  This is an excellent opportunity to allow SENCER related work at any stage of development to exchange ideas and network with other participants and invited guests.

Size Requirements

Posters should be no larger than 40 x 60 inches.  Although posters may be orientated vertically or horizontally; we recommend that posters be oriented horizontally.  If you do not have a venue on campus where you can print out a poster of this size, we recommend using www.postersession.com

Posters should include a description of the course or project activities, major themes, goals, accomplishments, and any available evaluation data.  Posters may have any combination of text and images including but not limited to photographs, tables, maps, or artwork.

Handouts/Electronics

We will not be able to provide a table for you to display handouts, nor will there be any place for you to plug in a computer or electronic equipment.

Set-up and Location

The poster session will be held in rooms B-339 and B-340 of the Rayburn Office Building.  Set-up for the session will be held from 11:30 am – 12:00 pm.  Please try to arrive at the event room no later than 11:50 am to set up your poster.  We will provide mounting materials the day of the session.  (The posters will be affixed to fabric dividers for display.)

Program

The poster session will begin at 12:00 pm and will end at 2:30 pm.  Featured speakers will address the group between 12:15 – 1:15 pm, and a light lunch buffet will be available beginning at 12:00 pm.  We encourage you to bring a camera to the event and to your meetings, and welcome any photos you would like to share with us.

Transportation

NCSCE will provide shuttle buses from the Inn to the College Park metro station on the morning of March 31st and pre-paid metro cards for your trip.  You will be responsible for getting your group to your meeting and the poster session on time.  Please consult the ‘Transportation’ page for riding and walking instructions to Capitol Hill.

Building Security

Please remember that all participants will need to go through security.  Bring a valid ID and allow for extra time.  Security lines may be quite long.

Follow-up

A PowerPoint or PDF copy of your final poster design should be e-mailed to SENCER at sencer@sencer.net shortly after the Symposium.
