Photograph by Michael Andrus The 2009 NCSCE Washington Symposium and SENCER Capitol Hill Poster Session focused on the important topic of science literacy, particularly the role of the citizen scientist in our society. The event took place on March 30-31, 2009 and was co-hosted by the University of Maryland with support from the Dean for Undergraduate Studies, the Vice President for Research, and the College of Chemical and Life Sciences. The Symposium program featured a plenary talk on citizen science, panel presentations by selected participants on areas of general interest to attendees, and discussions on future work. On Tuesday, March 31st, all participants met with members of their congressional delegations or their staffs, and then presented posters on their campus-based work during a lunch reception on Capitol Hill. The program concluded mid-afternoon on Tuesday.
