Assessment Evaluation Questions
  1. "What are students' evaluations of the knowledge and skills gained through participating in SENCER courses and their perceptions in changes in their attitudes and behaviors since taking these courses? (Strategy: the development of the SENCER SALG.)

  2. "What are the participant faculty members' perception of students' knowledge and skills gained through SENCER courses; how do faculty members perceive the change in student attitude as a result of these courses; what do participating faculty judge to have been the most effective teaching/learning strategies used in these courses? (Strategy: Development of a faculty post-course, on-line survey.)

  3. "What are the developmental patterns of delivery of SENCER courses over time? Special attention will be given to issues such as course objectives, teaching strategies, enrollment patterns, class size, student diversity, team teaching, interdisciplinary teaching. We are interested in knowing about strategies to enhance course development and delivery, as well as local evaluation and assessment efforts and success in identifying and securing additional funding for SENCER courses and programs. What other programs, products, and activities have resulted from participation in the SENCER program? (Strategy: Analysis of course planning templates, syllabi, and project reports).

  4. "What are faculty perceptions of the resources needed to implement new or revised SENCER courses? What is the nation of the barriers that faculty face and the strategies required to overcome them? What are the factors that promote: course improvement, increased student enrollment, positive student responses to SENCER courses? How do faculty participants use feedback data to revise subsequent course modifications? (Strategy: Analyze course templates and perform faculty interviews.)

  5. "What is the scholarly evidence that the Student and Faculty On-Line Assessment Questionnaires (the SENCER SALG) developed and used in this evaluation have attained a high level of construct validity and reliability? (Strategy: Run statistical tests on student and faculty on-line data).

  6. "What is the feasibility of identifying and developing a set of learning assessment instruments for core science knowledge and skills outcomes in consultation with the SENCER model developers and other faculty whose SENCER courses are sufficiently well-developed? (Strategy: To collect assessment tools currently being used and pilot test a customized SENCER learning assessment instrument in future years of the SENCER project.)
