While Richard Thompson is a relative newcomer to the SENCER community, he has long been associated with science education reform activities, as a member of the PKAL “faculty for the 21st century” program and in many other ways.  In his role as dean, Richard envisions being able to support, promote, and sustain the expansion of SENCER courses and the implementation of SENCER reforms at the College of Saint Rose.  Of particular importance to the National Fellowship Board is Richard’s commitment to collaborate with faculty in the school of education to foster new connections for pre-service teacher education in the STEM fields to issues of civic consequence.

As a SENCER Leadership Fellow, Richard will guide the development of additional SENCER courses, provide mentoring and development activities for new faculty members, and strengthen collaborations designed to improve the preparation of future science teachers.

Richard was elected to the inaugural class of Leadership Fellows in July 2008.
