About SENCER Leadership Fellow Cheryl Swift
Participants at the SENCER regional meeting organized by Chapman University got to hear Cheryl Swift describe an innovative course, Globalization and the Environment, that she and her colleague Becky Overmeyer-Velasquez have developed. This course and other work Cheryl is doing effectively situates science and related learning within the civic challenge of globalization, itself. As a SENCER Leadership Fellow, Cheryl plans to coordinate Whittier’s participation with the SENCER program, develop additional courses that teach science through issues of global consequence, support regional efforts with the SENCER Center for Innovation-West and in connection with a consortium of colleges that have agreed to limit carbon emissions, and provide workshops and other consultation on the SENCER approach to interested colleagues at Whittier and other institutions. Cheryl was elected to the inaugural class of Leadership Fellows in July 2008.
