About SENCER Leadership Fellow Sandra Seidel
Sandra Seidel, an exceptionally gifted academic leader, began her association with SENCER when she served on the faculty at Elon University. There she worked on a SENCER course “Science without Borders” and, as an invited scholar at the 2005 CASTL Institute, explored how to deepen and strengthen the learning in courses that seek to globalize science education. As a SENCER Leadership Fellow, Sandy will be introducing the SENCER program to colleagues at UVA, engaging with the SENCER regional center for innovation, and developing a new course for UVA based on SENCER principles. Sandy believes that her renewed association with SENCER can be beneficial to the University as it implements the strategic initiatives of the Commission on the Future of the University, particularly those goals of connecting academic life to public service through service learning and community-based research. Sandra was elected to the inaugural class of Leadership Fellows in July 2008.
