About SENCER Leadership Fellow David Morimoto

David Morimoto has led Lesley University’s SENCER initiatives.  These have included developing a first-year learning community focused on Urban Ecology in Cambridge, collaborating with the public school system and organizing laboratory space and opportunities so as to maximize interdisciplinary investigations and teaching.  David wants to devote more attention to the development of theme-base, civically connected courses that take full advantage of an integrated, interdisciplinary platform and engage students in knowledge production.

As a SENCER Leadership Fellow, David plans to expand civic engagement activities as a substantive component in a wide variety of courses, provide faculty development opportunities for colleagues (at Lesley and other colleges in the region) on the SENCER ideals and pedagogies, and develop longer term community-focused research activities that will serve to improve student learning and produce knowledge of use to the local community and the larger region, as well.

David was elected to the inaugural class of Leadership Fellows in July 2008.
