About SENCER Leadership Fellow Arthur Bowman
Arthur Bowman is a distinguished educational leader. He brings energy, ingenuity and wisdom, as well as the insight, experience and authority gained over many years in critical leadership positions, to promoting effective learning in the sciences for all students, but especially for those who have been historically underrepresented in the STEM disciplines and in occupations where training in these fields is an essential qualification. Art understands just how important it is for all citizens to be effectively prepared to engage with the most pressing civic issues of our time. He knows how critical it is for these students to have the skills and knowledge in science and mathematics to be effectively engaged as citizens. Art has employed what he has gained from his association with SENCER and in his many other positions of leadership to a general program of course improvement at Norfolk. As a SENCER Leadership Fellow, Art will be continuing his campus-based reform work at Norfolk State and will apply his talents to helping the SENCER program and its regional affiliates to extend the SENCER initiatives in a more organized and sustainable way with faculty leaders at Historically Black Colleges and Universities who are interested in applying SENCER ideals to the teaching of science. Art was elected to the inaugural class of Leadership Fellows in July 2008. |
