Areas of Importance

We are asking you to provide brief responses to the following five general areas of importance to the National Fellowship Board.

1. Your SENCER experience
Please describe your involvement with SENCER (brief history, current activities, if any) and any other relevant special experience you have in improving teaching and learning.
(300 words maximum)

2. Your interest in the SENCER Leadership Fellows Program
Please tell us why you would like to be appointed as a SENCER Leadership Fellow.  We would also like to know, if applicable, how you think your appointment as a Fellow would benefit you professionally and personally.
(300 words maximum)

3. What you hope to accomplish as a Fellow
As you know, we expect that SENCER Leadership Fellows will carry out important leadership roles.  Several activities mentioned earlier are listed below.  We don’t anticipate that any individual Fellow would be able to do all of them, but we want to get a good sense of what you think you would like to do.  Please check boxes next to items you will address during your fellowship.

Promoting wider campus adoption of SENCER principles in undergraduate STEM courses through presentations, seminars, and informal discussions
Guiding the development of at least one additional SENCER project/course on campus
Engaging and mentoring other faculty members (and students who intend to be teachers) in mplementing SENCER approaches
Connecting with and supporting regional activities
Developing strategies and ways to encourage students to take SENCER courses early in their academic careers (especially pre-service teacher education candidates)
Coordinating institutional participation in the SENCER SALG and other assessment activities
Creating and disseminating curricular materials or backgrounders; doing and reporting on research (the scholarship of teaching and learning)
Organizing and carrying out consultations and workshops at nearby colleges and/or at local, state, and national disciplinary organizations
Other areas and activities that you would care to specify

Please describe activities that you will initiate to fulfill the goals of items you checked above (500 words).

4. Potential allies and collaborators
Please identify a few key people with whom you would plan to collaborate and who will be working with you on the goals you have identified. (200 words suggested maximum)

5. Advice you have for us
Please add any comments, thoughts, or advice that you would care to offer on any aspect of the Fellows program and give us the benefit of having a sense of the aspirations you have for yourself  in connection with the Fellowship.
(300 words suggested maximum)

6. Other supporting materials
Please email an electronic version of your brief CV, a biosketch (<150 words) and your photo to leadershipfellows@sencer.net (these will be used on the SENCER Web site Fellows pages).
